Council for Inclusive Excellence and Equity

The Council for Inclusive Excellence and Equity monitors, reviews and assesses VCU’s diversity, equity and inclusive excellence initiatives. It develops and is guided by VCU’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan of action.

The council, whose members are appointed for three-year terms, meets at least twice a semester. Its role includes:

  • Serving as an adviser to the vice president for inclusive excellence to provide guidance on initiatives and actions for enhancing VCU’s diversity commitment
  • Reporting on the status of diversity, equity and inclusion at VCU 
  • Providing regular reports with recommendations on issues, policies and practices that affect VCU’s ability to provide support for its widely diverse population
  • Reviewing VCU’s effectiveness in advancing its institutional commitment to diversity and equity in its climate, curriculum, recruitment and retention practices, and community partnerships.
  • Serving as an advisory forum and resource for campus concerns and opinions pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Providing a forum where representatives from various segments of the university community can come together to discuss and consider innovative, proactive strategies, methods, and approaches to advance VCU’s diversity and inclusive climate at all levels
  • Reviewing VCU’s demographic data to provide informed advice and recommendations about its diversity strategic actions
  • Providing regular status reports for the president, president’s cabinet, University Council, Council of Deans, and board of visitors
  • Issuing an annual campus inclusive excellence and equity progress report with recommendations on institutional practices and policies for fostering inclusion, diversity and equity
