VCU's Austin Higgs, Eric King and Paris Prince honored as unsung heroes of Richmond’s black LGBTQ community

Among the 17 people recognized at the inaugural “Black and Bold: RVA’s Unsung Black LGBTQ Community Gala” were Austin Higgs, operations coordinator in the office of Equity and Access Services at VCU; Eric King, an adjunct professor in the Department of Political Science in the College of Humanities and Sciences; and Paris Fitzgerald Prince, senior LGBTQ equity officer in the office of Equity and Access Services at VCU. Call for Nominations: 2017 PACME Awards

Nominate members of the VCU and VCU Health System communities for the 2017 PACME. The annual Presidential Awards for Community Multicultural Enrichment recognize contributions and efforts made toward enhancing the goals of inclusive excellence and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Four separate awards recognize students or student organizations, faculty, classified and hourly staff, and administrators. In addition to the award, each recipient will receive $500. The Riese-Melton Award, which is given for contributions to cross-cultural relations, is the capstone award. The recipient of this award is chosen from the 2017 PACME recipients and will receive an additional $250.
SAVE the Date! The 2017 PACME Celebration is April 20th at 3:00pm in the Commonwealth Ballroom, University Student Commons. Everyone is invited.

Diversity Richmond honors Black History Month

, the LGBTQ community center of Central Virginia, is celebrating the contributions of LGBTQ African Americans through a series of events during February, Black History Month. All are free and open to the public.
“Our events celebrate the work of local black LGBTQ leaders and also offer opportunities for the entire community to learn about the rich diversity of Greater Richmond. We at Diversity Richmond build bridges and tear down walls. What better time to discuss the issues than during Black History Month,” stated Dr. Ravi K. Perry, Diversity Board member and Virginia Commonwealth University professor.
