VCU Students and Alumni to Attend Clinton Global Initiative University

A record-breaking nine Virginia Commonwealth University students and alumni have been accepted to participate in this fall’s Clinton Global Initiative University, a prestigious event that brings together more than 1,100 innovative students from around the world who are committed to tackling some of the most pressing challenges in the areas of education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation and public health.

Good Books for Your Summer Reading List

The first official day of summer is almost here and with it, thoughts of vacation: sandy beaches, road trips, staycations, and everything in between. For many of us, vacation means relaxing with a good book. To that end, Virginia Commonwealth University faculty members were asked to recommend books they feel would make good additions to anyone’s summer reading list.  Read more.

Community Service with VCU ASPiRE

VCU ASPiRE is offering opportunities for faculty and staff to use community service leave this summer with partners like FeedMore and Habitat for Humanity. ASPiRE will do all of the heavy lifting, including transportation, coordinating logistics with the community partner and facilitating a debrief session following the service experience. VCU Commitment to LGBTQ+ Students Recognized

Virginia Commonwealth University was honored recently with the 2017 Catalyst Award by Side by Side, an organization dedicated to creating supportive communities where Virginia’s LGBTQ+ youth can define themselves, belong and flourish.
Side by Side specifically cited efforts such as VCU’s Lavender House, an inclusive living-learning community for first-year LGBTQ+ students, and the Lavender Empowerment Summit, a weekend forum aimed at empowering LGBTQ+ students to pursue individual and community leadership roles. Side by Side also noted efforts spanning student affairs, athletics, courses offered in the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies and Safe Zone workshops.

Dr. Rosalyn Hobson Hargraves heads VCU Diversity Efforts

Interdisciplinary thinking and multitasking are just two of the many skills that Rosalyn “Roz” Hobson Hargraves, Ph.D., brings to her role as VCU’s acting chief diversity officer. In addition to her new position as associate vice president in the university’s Division for Inclusive Excellence, Hargraves is an associate professor in the VCU School of Engineering, and, associate professor at the School of Education. 
She is providing on-campus leadership in diversity and inclusion while Kevin Allison, Ph.D., Interim Vice President for Inclusive Excellence, is away on a fellowship.  Read more here.
