Strategic Action Plan

The‌ Draft of the 2016-21 Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Action Plan is now available for review and comment.

The plan was developed by VCU’s Council for Inclusive Excellence and Equity, a 24-member group spanning administrative areas of campus that was appointed by President Rao in summer 2015.

The council’s draft was informed by campuswide diversity and inclusion input sessions and information shared by VCU faculty, staff, students, alumni and other constituent groups.

Please review the draft plan and provide your feedback via the form below.

Provide dedicated, intentional, and committed initiatives, actions, and behaviors to advance diversity, inclusion and equity at all institutional levels.

Create and sustain a welcoming climate for diversity where individuals of differing perspectives, life experiences, identities, and cultural backgrounds are welcomed, valued and supported in their learning, working and living.

Attract and retain a widely diverse faculty, staff and student body. Implement strategies for enhancing recruitment, retention and success.

Provide rich teaching, learning, research, and service experiences to prepare all students for global citizenship; and support faculty, staff and student research that addresses diversity and inclusion issues in disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields.

Establish institutional baseline metrics, targets and gaps in the measurement of progress toward the University’s goals and initiatives to advance diversity, equity and inclusion; design and deploy periodic diversity climate surveys, with the results used to monitor and report on institutional progress.
